  1. Get a pencil with a rubber end and clean the contacts on both the ink cartridge and the printer (the shiny brass things)

Also shake the ink cartridge very strongly (but beware ink will splattet out so put your finger over the nozzle.)

These things have quite sophisticated electronics inside them (that's why they are so expensive) and they need a perfect connection

  2. Ebay is fine if you are just wanting to buy something - although you do have to be aware of a few things.

Like a lot of the times you can get the same item from an actual bona fide retailer for less.

And some dodgy buggers make sure the photo's only show the good bits

    But!

If you want to sell something, the charges are unbelivable. You get thromped 3 times.

For example; I had an item to sell. I put it up for £350.00 and it was snapped up in less than an hour.

£350 was a bargain for the item and the buyers obvioulsly knew that.

That part I am not bothered about.

Because I wanted to put up photographs of the item, I was charged about £6.00 to advertise

It sold and this is where they are crafty (or bloody sneaky) The buyer put £350 in my paypal account.

That is so that paypal (which you are forced to use) get the percentage of the full selling price (£16)

Then later ebay take their 10% off the full selling price too. (£35) at no point do you own the full selling price

So out of the £350 I was deducted £57.00. That is a massive rake off for one item where I have done all the work.

Anyone know of any better selling sites with a much better percentage rake off.

  3. I am no financial wizard but if tourists or more people than normally would buy products as a result of seeing the olympics and London

The money filters down no matter what you think

The extra products and services have to be made and supplied - that = extra jobs or people keeping their jobs

Not just some fat cats just licking the cream.

  4. None of us here can claim to really know the financial gain or loss the Olymics has generated.

We don't know how much extra tourism and business will occur due to this magnificent event.

But for sure, it won't harm us.

Billions of people worldwide watched it on TV and it put Britain in a positive light.

I though London especially looked wonderful.

How many of those billions watching have now decided they must come to Britain next year.

It's all extra income that will filter through the system.

  5. Very nice.

here, I'll give you a free tip from an electrician (me)

    The burned out plug thing.

3KW takes about 12.4 Amp. The plug has a 13Amp fuse in it which is fine

But if your plug pins are dirty or tarnished (comes with age and use) then there will be a resistance between the pins

    and the socket.

This causes heat which causes more resistance which causes more heat until what they call 'brown out' happens.

For 3KW appliances try to never touch the actual plug pins as grease from your fingers gets on them.

If the brass is already tarnished (dull) then clean them with electrical spray or such (make sure they are dry and wiped clean before you plug it in)

And your plug wont get hot or brown out again

  6. Bloody hell, has a former member hacked your account Daveb. You are sounding like him

    (only joking mate :) )

I have no idea whether there will be a profit or a loss or who will gain and who will lose and you are probably right with the logistics of the venue.

But it's a spectacle that the whole world will watch. The cream of human ability, endurance and skill are on show.

Every competitor has forsaken a normal life just to be good enough to be there.

Most are amateurs with normal jobs striving to be the best they can be.

I think it's a wonderful and at times emotional event.

I for one shall be watching and cheering

  7. I agree that it has to be good for the country.

I also agree that the tickets are way too expensive.

I would love to see the finest athletes in the world live so to speak in front of my eyes

but the price of tickets, if you can get any at all is so high.

I noticed that the BBC have opened 24 (yes 24) new HD channels just dedicated to the olympics.

Mind you, I paid £70 yesterday to watch the final days golf at the British open.

I thought that was quite good value though. I was in the gate for 7 O clock AM

and didn't come away till after 8PM.

I watched the best and possibly the greatest ever golfer doing their stuff.

Some of the top pro's are really nice people - they talk to the crowd and have a laugh with you.

Well, except one (the greatest) he never responds to the crowd .

  8. Well, England are 5/4 to win against the Swedes tonight - so the bookies still think England won't win

(otherwise they would be 1/2 against.) But 5/4 is not worth risking decent money even though I think they will win 2 - 0

By the odds they are giving - they think it will be a draw.

You can get 12/1 Gerrrad to score first - which by the way he played the first match are good odds

or 4/1 for him to score anytime in the match.

I think I shall have a little punt on him to score first and a smaller punt for him to score anytime - to cover my bets

  9. Ahh nuts - the intuition was right and the bookies had underestimated Englands chances but the bloody frogs scored a goal.

For 10 minutes the loot was mine.

Oh well, I will still keep my eyes skinned for the next value bet.

Ireland are 12/1 to win tonight. You very rarely get 12/1 on one football match

  10. Aye, that about sums it up Jamer.

Alloneword, I would not like you to take your ball home on account of any comments from me.

I promise I will not refer to you again in any postings from me nor will I use pseudonyms for you and Batman.

(oops, crap, I used one - but that's the last one)

So try chill a bit, the forum is slowly coming alive again - enjoy the new times on here.

:thumbs-down1: :Thumbs_Up1: <----- an attempt at showing us shaking hands.

  11. Interesting that this old post resurfaced.

Interesting in that about 4 years ago a friend of mind bought a chippy business.

It was run down and business was slow to none existent. Mainly because 2 pubs close by had shut down.

His business plan was not only to be the best tasting fish n chips in the area but he was going to open all day

(most around here, apart from the town center just open for lunch and 2/3 nights a week)

He put big signs up and adverts in the local papers to tell everyone he was open all day etc.

He ran at a loss for nearly 6 months but slowly things turned around - most business from people wanting fish n chips in the afternoon or on the way home from work.

Besides passing trade, people actually drive well out of their way to his shop now and everyone knows that he is open all day.

  12. I suggest you grow a pair and quick mate.

It was obvious to everyone it was a joke. ( or pi$$take or whatever)

I would normally say I am sorry if you took offence but don't play Mr sensitive with me.

It was you that sent me a PM entitled YOU C**T

  13. I have learned to say 'hello' and 'good morning' and 'nice to meet you' and a few other phrases in Polish _ it seems to go down well.

Plus the polish for 'Bitch' and when you say it you have to spit on the floor at the same time - a good laugh with the Polish blokes

  14. And for the influx of Poles, serbs, russians and whoever.

I am very sexist though because most of the european girls are very bonny - so I don't mind then coming here at all.

I work in some factories and it is almost totally european workers - a lot can't speak the language.

But, they all seem very nice people.

  15. The thing is, if England win - you will not get 2/1 again in the tournament.

At the moment everyone thinks they have no chance including the bookies.

I would expect the odds to shorten as the first match gets nearer as plenty faithful fans will place their money on England

So I imagine 2/1 will not last long.

  16. At the time of writing, you can get 2/1 for England to Beat France a week on Monday

    (with paddypower.com)

I think that is exceptional value.

Even without a few regular players - the replacements are good up and coming England stars

(To be honest, I think Lampard is past his sell-by date and I have never rated Barry as an England midfielder)

I have put £50 on a straight England win and I fully expect my 50 quid back and another £100 as the bonus.

Have some faith and grab the value, you don't often get 2/1 for England.
