I just wonder how a Celeron 900/2GB RAM will cope with win7 Pro, having not played much with win 7 myself i can't comment to much, hopefully someone can give a bit more input on that one (Dave :Winky: ) the rest of it seems fine to me, tried to find what the max ram it will take via crucial's website but no luck, as i say my main concern would be the CPU.

Guess it depends on who is going to be using it and what for, if it's simple surfing/email/IM/youtube/facebook i think you'll be fine, I don't know how these grants work but considering in most cases you can up the hard drive and ram i'd go for best CPU you can get then add more ram and fatter hard drive at a later date if needed, it's what i done with my laptop.

You can get better for that much mate. The Intel Celeron 900 and the Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M are the big lot down on this.

You can get a Centrino and low-mid nvidia-ATI Graphics for the £300 mark now.

have a look at some of DELL's laptops

I remember the govt grant laptops for kids (s**t laptops at 2x the cost)

The is a 12" Windows 7 Pro laptop that has a free year of 3G Internet on it that you can get on that grant.

Apart from the 12" it is a good spec too.

REMEMBER that you will be getting a govt version of Windows 7 that will spy on the kids (This is the dodgiest version of windows I've ever seen)

The dodgy versions :Vault: we chat about on here are 100% better than the version you will get on this type of laptop.

:Blush: They stop doing the 12" Laptop I remember looking some time ago for a mate that got a grant and the 12" were the best you got on it.

The next best is the AMD on the link mate.

Thanks for the input guys it's gonna be for my daughter so just as A1W says surfing/email/IM/youtube/facebook maybe homework but knowing her not much of that lol. Unfortunately i am limited to where i can buy from a and what i can get i myself did check out others with better specs for around the £400 mark but have to get one of the supplies in the book they supply. The laptop comes with loads of software the goverment supplies for the kids apparently i'll try and get rid of this stuff when i get the chance if it's rubbish. I though as it was 2GB and 250G harddrive it would be actually better than the others available. I've checked out the AMD m8 i wasn't sure to tell the truth but if your sure it's better i'll check it out again.

cheers folks.

I've had to format the AMD in the past for a mate I can tell you that it will meet all your needs.

If you can see any laptop that's got an Intel Atom CPU @ 1.5 GHz or higher in it go for that as that will be better than the AMD mate

Atom = best

Sempron = good

Celeron = Cr*p

I've just come across a site that lets you use the home access grant and lets you top up the spec for a small fee (same sempron as the one you seen but for a extra £21.99 you get a ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Chip)

http://www.homeaccesscomputers.com/homeaccess/index.php/computers-internet/computer-internet-bundle/toshiba-satellite-pro-l450-free-educational-software.html

Or for £46.99 extra you get the ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Chip and 2GB RAM.

You all so get 12m Mobile Broadband Internet from 3, with 3GB monthly allowance on the two in this post (I Don't know if the misco one dose this)

Cheers m8 for your feedback you obviously know a hell of alot more about laptops than i do i'm gonna go for the AMD as you mentioned unfortunately no spare cash at the moment so can't go for any of the upgrades you mentioned. I can get the AMD at the itpositive site i mentioned in my first post with 2GB ram althou only 160GB HD
