  1. I once watched a documentary on Ikea and a director was asked why do you charge double the price in the UK than the same items in Europe. He said because they'll pay it meaning were thick in this country,I hated Ikea before but after that i said i'll never buy anything from Ikea ever.

Problem is i have a great bed, but it needs a new mattress and ikea beds are a non standard size, in my case 160x200 hence you can only get your mattress from them, it's a great way to make customers pay over the odds i know but i love my bed and hence will pay the price for a mattress, just wanted to save afew quid if i could.

  2. So now we are told on every news channel and every newspaper that bread is bad for you as it contains too much salt.

If any of you have a bread maker or ever made bread by hand you will realise that bread must have salt in it

not just for taste but it stops the yeast going 'mad' and fluffing it up too much.

Funny you should mention this today, I was watching the wright stuff this afternoon and the host said he made his own bread and has now done away with using ANY salt and he can't tell the difference.. Go figure that one.

Given i don't make my own (but i am thinking about it given the normal shop stuff is so bad for me being diabetic) i'd be intrested in making it as healthy as poss, check out 5 on demand they may even have it on there.

  3. Iran embassy SAS commander John McAleese dies

Ex-SAS soldier John McAleese, who led the raid that ended the 1980 siege at Iran's embassy in London, has died.

Mr McAleese, who was in his early 60s, died on Friday in Thessaloniki, Greece, the Foreign Office said.

The former sergeant led the team which blew out the building's windows and rescued 24 hostages from gunmen.

His daughter said he had been reunited with his son, a soldier killed in Afghanistan. "Two great heroes taking their place in heaven," she said.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We are aware of the death of John McAleese, a hero who served his country bravely and professionally in a military career that spanned many years.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."

  4. Check out what is covered by a CRB check and an 'enhanced' CRB check...

The former doesn't disclose certain offences which are 'spent', although not all. The latter (which was supposed to be only for those working with kids and vulnerable adults) is being increasingly used for 'run of the mill' jobs and does - it ignores the idea of 'spent' convictions, and even includes rumours/heresay 'evidence'!

I know i come back clean from a CRB check as my stuff is spent and i guess i agree with convictions not being spent if you work with kiddies but the enhanced should only with kiddies, as for the rumour stuff well that's a joke.

but do we tag the perpetrators of actions that don't threaten people with a life that means they have no chance of employment/hope alongside the violent ones?
I would not say they had "no hope" but it does make life much harder for them i agree, but i'd like to think i'd have the balls to report my kid.

  5. But nowadays the real punishment isn't the sentence...it's the lifelong tag you have put on you that means you have no effective future.

In my day, there was the 'rehabilitation of offenders act', which meant do the crime and accept the punishment. After a period, if you behave it won't be neccessary to disclose that crime. It acted as an incentive to not re-offend. Where is that incentive now?

Not to sure what your saying here m8, are you saying convictions are never "spent" any more? If that's the case then i can see your point about no incentive, if it was simple stealing (shoplifting) then no i would not tell plod, however looting and rioting are a different ball game IMO, i know on that mon/tues evening when it kicked off i was worried for myself and my home, the rule of law had gone out the window (I know it's not great at the best of time) and looting is a big no no, so i would grass them up even if convictions are never spent any more.

I did see some mother on tv the other day crying that she did grass her own kid up and full credit to her takes balls to do it IMO

  7. Tried there m8, they have plenty of icons like this but i "wanted" the ones that are on xp classic form, trouble is there based in a dll file which i have been able to hack but quality is not great when enlarged to 60x60 format, this is proving apin in the butt think i just may have to bite the bullet and use different ones.

  8. I have now moved to Win7 64bit and i hate (with a passion) the new windows explorer, i have done most thing s i need to get it the way i like but i'm having trouble finding a decent set of icons for my windows explorer, i'll need icons for stuff like "cut, copy, paste, undo, move to, copy to, new folder, properties, delete etc".

Now the problem is there are tons on websites with icons and that's the problem so many to look at, I'll want icons to be about 60x60 something like this twitter icon

    twitter.png

Does Jamer or any other web builders have any suggestions on where to look, as i say it's just for windows explorer, so anything that could be used in that enviroment would be handy.

  9. Just a thought..Imagine looking from the outside in from certain quarters...

The requests to shut down messaging services, general curfews, dispersal orders, kangaroo courts/instant 'justice', forced homelessness, the world's biggest surveillance system and an increasingly militarised police force that is largely unaccountable, limited access to legal services, secret courts, house arrest without trial...

Add to that a corrupt parliament/said police force, discredited electoral system, a ruling/wealthy elite creaming off the nations wealth...

A nation that attacks/invades other sovereign states illegally in order for financial gain...

I do see what your saying but as it stands right now were not as bad as the middle east yet but as i say i do fear for the freedoms of people in years to come, but i'll be long gone in 50 years.

(And you wait until you see what they have is store next year all in the name of a 'Safe Olympics'... :Winky:)
No worries for me m8, I just ain't going out for 3 weeks, mind guess i'll still need and rectal exam given I live in London, if it's bad for me what the hell will it be like for a Black or Muslim, sod that.

Is our propoganda any better or worse than theirs?
You call it propoganda, I call it bullsh1t

  10. Whole thing is a joke now IMO.

I have no issues with banging them up but 4 years seems a bit ott to me, but before eveyone has a pop at me, look at this and then ask if it's right.

These guys get 4 years and Gary Glitter gets 4 months for having thousands of images of child pron, now when you look at it like that it stinks either GG should have got more or these guys get less then GG got as IMO being a nonce is worse then having some scumbag trying to nick a tv or laptop, if i have it wrong will someone please explain it to me and where my thought process is wrong?

I don't think you can lump us in with some of these other countries sparks (yet), however when you take a look at how the UK has changed in the last 20 odd years and how we have lost so many rights, it's no wonder you draw those conclusions (spelling), i do wonder what it will be like in another 20 years and who knows in 50 maybe we will have the thought police (Blair would be so proud).

  11. Intresting you should mention this now, this was in the current bun the other day

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/3747929/Sun-man-puts-hitchhiker-fears-to-the-test.html

As for giving lifts etc well I have only ever ridden bikes so 95% of the time i don't carry a spare helmet but on one occasion i took a m8 up to Northampton to pick up his new bike and he gave me his old helmet to take back (would not have looked right stuck on the back of his GSXR 750) and i did stop for someone and asked if they wanted lift into London but they refused to get on the back which is fair enough.

However i have picked up at least half a dozen other bikers (who have there own lids and are happy to ride pillion) who have either broken down by the side of the road or ran out of fuel and taken them to petrol stations got a can of fuel and taken them back to there bike, there seems to be a certain amount of comradery (spelling) between bikes especially outside London.

  12. Well to add my 2p's worth i think Jamer is right in one way we do need to give a decent sentance and a few weeks is a joke, however sparks has also hit the nail on the head as well IMO, is it any wonder some people loot when you have multi millionaires fiddleing the expensises and claiming for duck ponds and bath plugs IMO they are worse then the scum who were looting, when you look at the looters some i guess are stealing because they can't afford latest gear which in no way is good, look at me i'm skint have to buy 2nd hand pc bits most of the time and buying a new tv has taken me years to save for and i do mean years, but i never went looting even though it would have been dead easy given my location.

Then you have the lot that are loaded and still want to fiddle things WHY? i mean you have millions why nick a few thousand from people like postman, claners, bin men, shop workers, factory worker they have little and pay there taxes and the rich won't to steal from them, let alone people like Phillip Green who make my blood boil, so in a way there is no wonder some folks riot, it's not right but when you just take 5 mins to see things from there POV if the rich are gonna steal then why don't I, after all if it's good for them it's good for the others, as for setting fire etc no reason for that and they should get a long stretch, however given jails are full and we have no room to put pedo's in it does p1ss me off we can find room for looters all of a sudden, afetr all mum's and dad's who would you rather have next door to you a looter or a nonce?

P.S. I ain't scared of Sparks I can see both sides of the fence and IMO Jamer is right but Sparks does IMO have avery valid point.

  13. What's all the chat about plasma it's now 2011 plasma is old
To be honest this is what i thought as well, but as i say i'm far from an expert.

D I have heard of the "AV forums" before but not been there in donkeys but i'll make my over there today to check it out.

I like all the connectivity on that argos link cobra just not sure how useful internet will be for me as so many ISP's limit your downloads and given i down a lot from the PC using the TV to watch stuff would only make matters worse :Hmm:

  14. Thanks for the replies guys, however I'm not looking for suggestions for certain sets just yet (but I will do later) right now I'm trying to learn about the pro's and cons of various manf processes and things I should have on the set and things that are desirable and things to avoid, for example USB sockets come on some sets, however not all sets will play video files from them some only allow you to update firmware etc, also there is a major issue with panel technology some offer S-PVA panel and others offer A-MVA, one is far better then the other but I don't know which yet (hence needing to do stacks more reading) also the is another problem and that is with the processor in the sets there seems to be 2 major processors at work and again one is much better then the other, and I'm trying to work how the hell you can tell.

How many HDMI/Scart/S-VHS/USB/Ethernet socket do people have/need (I know it depends on what your going to do with it, also HDMI standards are changing or have recently changed and I need to know what the various versions of HDMI mean for the end user, do I go for internet enabled etc etc, so much to read up on it's untrue. As I say I can't make a mistake so I have to do my homework and Jamer as for 46" you forget something m8, you have a house I have a pokey 1 bed flat if I get a 46" TV in here I'll have to sit in the hallway to watch the dame thing, budget wise I could go over £500 if I had to but it would have to be some awesome to make me spend that much.

  15. As it stands right now i have an old 4:3 CRT TV and to be honest it does me, but with London switching to digital in 2012 i feel now is the right time to start looking, also another major issue is connectovity on my current TV it's very poor, I have a single scart which i use for dvd playback and video playback from the pc is via the TV Out (S-VHS) on the video card which goes into the S-VHS video player and then i watch on tv via the video channel it's not great but it does do the job for me, but it was a real bitch to find a fassively cooled video card with a TV-Out socket 99% have hdmi outputs.

I know very little about 16:9 LCD/Plasma stuff so treat me as a bit of a newbie, this purchase will have to last me a long time if i make a mistake and buy the wrong one i won't be able to go and get another one in a few months time, so what should i have and what should i avoid, not just the make but what sockets and faciltites should i look out for or even avoid.

I'll need a min of 37" and a max of 42" personally i'm not fussed about freeview HD but i guess more and more will come with it, I have a budget of about £500 and a decent warranty would be cool I think 3 HDMI socket 2 scarts will do but should i look for any other sockets/connectovity?, I have also read some stories about there being a panel and processer lottery with some screens, i'll be doing some reading on that over the next few days but can anyone shed any light on this for me now.

Also any other links to review sites or other forums but if it's the latter then PM me the addy, many thanks.

  16. He can try and turn it into what ever he likes and if he has the right to wear a uniform then fine et him do it, for me it's about "justice" and IMO that means the families of the dead can see he get his sentance no matter what he says in court, let him say what he wants as sparks says just show him to be bonkers.

  17. He obviously thought he'd have a moment of fame and glory in court - why grant him the satisfaction?

Justice needs to be seen to be done, not behind closed doors, very few reason to have a case behind closed doors IMO and this ain't one, bad news IMO
