  1. Larry Hagman, who spent more than a decade playing TV villain JR Ewing has died at the age of 81, his family says.

Hagman, who had suffered from cancer and cirrhosis of the liver, died in hospital on Friday afternoon, according to a family statement.

"Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most," said the family. "He was surrounded by loved ones."

Long-time friend Linda Gray, who played Sue Ellen, was by his bedside.

"Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years," said Ms Gray in a statement released by her agent.

"He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented and I will miss him enormously.

"He was an original and lived life to the full."

During 13 years as the most scheming oil tycoon in Dallas, JR in his Stetson became one of the most distinctive faces on television screens across the world.

It quickly became one of the network's top-rated programmes - with its 356 episodes being seen by an estimated 300 million people in 57 countries - and was revived this year.

  2. The £50 connection fee is a bit of a con if fiber is already available at the exchange and you are already on it for your internet

It's just a case of typing it into a computer to swap you over to fiber.

BTW what are the upload speeds on the two if it's less then 10mb don't get it

As the is CRC checking on all the downloading you do and this needs upload (this is the bottle neck)

I still think SDSL is the best type if internet you can get

If you were to have a 1000mb download but only a 10mb upload the fastest you can download on that will be 96mb

After all the CRC is done.

If you had a upload of say 16mb the top download speed you can get of that is 256mb

If they offer you 24mb upload that will Max out glan up to a 1000mb you will get full speed on download.

Just remember that for every 8 bits you download 2 bits get uploaded and the next lot of 8 bits will not download till the is a OK on the 2bits uploaded if the is not a OK on it you get the same 8bits sent again till it is OK.

Jamer said his upload is 13mb

I have ordered BT Infinity Option 2 'Unlimited' maximum of 52mb download for my exchange and 13mb upload.

  3. Olympics gold medals well worth it.

    They only cost £4.5 million.each.

    Think health,schools,jobs,jobs,etc

That is not counting the real costs of those who have lost out bigtime,Businesses forced to close, loss of business etc.

Sorry to be a killjoy but just a waste of money.

What you on about a Gold Medal cost £450, they are NOT solid gold you know!

The Olympic Games in London the say are one of the best in all time and will generate billions over he years for the UK just on increased tourism alone, so actually you could not be further from the truth.

  4. OMG because a member makes a comment that is not welcome your going to leave? I am damned if I would especially if I had been here as long as you.

  5. I have to admit my recent absence from the pad is partly due to being fed up with all the surliness of his posts. Now he has departed, and I don't know why, I may well be dropping in more frequently now.

sparks departure began when Jamer removed one of his usual anti royal posts I believe. You will find most of the discussion within this post http://www.jamerspad...showtopic=27319 but yes as you can see you are not alone, he was putting members off from contributing clearly.

  6. I can't help but notice that the forum is a lot busier this last week or so, now I don't know if this has anything to do with sparks departure or if that is just a coincidence but there re a lot more active members around which is good to see. :Smiler:

  7. 'Few aware' of European holiday 112 emergency number

The survey was conducted to coincide with European 112 Day<p class="story-feature related narrow">

Most people do not know the number to call in the event of an emergency on holiday in Europe, a survey suggests.

The Foreign Office poll of more than 2,000 people in the UK found that just 14% were aware the 112 number could reach the emergency services.

Some 12% thought it connected to directory enquiries, while others believed it was a brand of perfume, the number of a bus or type of jeans.

The Foreign Office's Lynda St Cooke said knowing the number could be vital.

    'Quite stunned'

She told the BBC: "112 works right across the EU and in a few other countries too. In a lot of countries you can even use English, because it will take you through to a particular call centre where there will be English-language operators.

"It works in the UK as well, you can use it in parallel with 999, which is the same in a number of EU countries but some have adopted it as their only emergency number."

Only 3% of those surveyed knew 112 was the EU emergency number, making the UK one of the bottom three countries in Europe for awareness of the service.

Ms St Cooke, from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's Know Before You Go campaign, added: "We were quite stunned to find that only 14% of people knew that dialling 112 will reach the emergency services and only 3% recognised that it was the EU emergency number."

She said Ukraine would be using the 112 number in its cities which are hosting matches in the Euro 2012 football championship this summer.

The survey was conducted to coincide with European 112 Day, which is on the 11th day of the 2nd month of the year.

  8.
