  1. Unfortunately since I'm not a californian rock band, you lose again.... :Smiler: But if I were, I would have written an album entitled "Quit while you're behind".... Worth a google... :Winky:
  2. I wonder how much Rooney Snr had on little Wayne getting sent off last night...
  3. As expected - after due process! This one might go the other way.. Suspected burglar found shot and man arrested
  4. At the risk of comparing 'piles', maybe you ought to look at 'screw piles'...more expensive though, so expect that's why it isn't used more often.
  5. The thing is, it doesn't matter about the percentage if it directly affects you.... And I read somewhere that the motorbike c*ck-up affected up to 20,000 people! Mind you, I wouldn't mind being one of those given entitlement to drive something I hadn't taken a test for... :Winky:
  6. Remember the days of duplicate paper licences and a suitable typewriter?....
  7. I suggest you read the second post again... :Winky:
  8. A cousin did it whilst employing a solicitor as regards selling his house, and it cost zip - so I have no idea of how much it would cost as a one off...
  9. As far as I know they are still f*cking things up - there was another watchdog item on this issue earlier this year. My advice if you are worried is to copy your existing licence (both parts) and have it notarised by a solicitor in case they do make a mistake... I assume you are concerned about the reports of loss of entitlement to ride a bike?
  10. Pah... The portable cd player was just a dream when I remember owning one of these and strapping it to my bike handlebars....! But here's the funny thing...it was more reliable (and sociable), albeit less convenient when looking for tracks... But smaller is not always better..... As I'm sure Sue will agree - Touché!
  11. Ours was the same... We are continually exchanging quality for convenience... Furthjer things that mean deteriorating quality... MP3 instead of CD instead of vinyl... HD TV which is crap unless you pay for HD devices/contracts... Camcorders that output compressed instead of raw footage... The list goes on and on....
  12. They've apparently abandoned the nominal switch off of AM in 2015, and it's anyones guess when that will happen now let alone FM... By the time enough people get DAB, DAB+ will be around and many DAB radios will also become obsolete! Then of course there is internet radio which gives far better quality than DAB - well here at least... So I won't be buying DAB, as it's crap reception, energy hungry and I hate those bloody retro radios! And besides, this continual change of technology is a massive con - designed merely to part us from our hard earned as often as possible!
  13. As I've said earlier, protect them up to and including using the same force that appears to be the case here - if the situation warranted it ! And that's the difference between a practical approach, and a gung ho 'let me at 'em' one, which is mostly bluster I suspect... I'd give him at least £100...lol But seriously though, if the idea is to protect your family then the best way is to get the intruder out of the house....if that means them leaving with some of your possesions, then so be it. They can be replaced! Violence should only be used when all else fails, although it may also be the first option in a certain situation... You have to be able to justify your actions, given our f*cked up injustice system, which means giving plod as little grounds of charging you as possible...hence why a suitable diy tool is a lot more convincing to have around than a baseball bat! And easier to wield in an enclosed space! Funnily enough I thought about that as a career at one time.... Then I met one.... :Winky:
  14. Do you know something we don't in order to make that statement?
  15. Occasionally you post a funny.... :Fun:
  16. America would (and still does) attack whoever it deems a threat to it's financial base without a second thought...just like we did in the previous century! And in a time of depression, war is an economy booster whoever is the target...And they then f*cked us over with the 'marshall plan'! So I wonder who they are going to pick on next... :Winky:
  17. One of the arguments for anonymity until convicted...which I believe should be universal. Guilty or not, he has no way of defending himself but his image is forever tarnished regardless...
  18. Ah, so you boldly 'claim' you would attack someone with the intention of killing them merely if you found them in your house 'if you had the chance', regardless of any actual threat ?... That then is murder and not self defence...hence why there must always be an investigation, as there's a world of difference! Futhermore is it not a tad worrying to have anyone who would happily kill, based on their own moral code, mingling freely in society?
  19. As would I Jamer... But think about it...Is it easier to explain away a baseball bat by the door, or an equally efficient diy tool? It's all very well to get a bit 'gung ho' about this, but what protection could you give to your kids from a police cell?
  20. I think it's taken as read that anyone would defend their family/property in a similar way... But personally I'm a bit smarter (as regards keeping a baseball bat in a house that probably has no connection with that sport), and a bit more choosey about which implement to keep handy that would do the same damage without arousing suspicion... :Winky: But what Jamer originally posted was questioning the arrest...that has nothing to do with any charges that may or may not arise. Do we then just assume that any 'reported burglar' who has been killed 'got what he deserved', or do we ascertain the facts? I reserve my judgement in this case, just the same as I do with other reports from plod....because I recall a case where a burglar was fleeing, hunted down, and killed in an act of retrospective vigilantism. Is that what people would want as our justice system? I suspect that this incident will be proven to be one that will play out to be as it appears...but unless 'due process' happens, then we go back to the law of the jungle... And that means there will always be someone that has a bigger weapon than you Rother!
  21. To be fair to plod (did I just say that?), any death has to be investigated. If as reported, then there should of course be no charges... But the trouble we have in this country is that means his arrest will be recorded for 'enhanced checks', and his DNA and fingerprints stored indefinately - despite that being ruled illegal ! Maybe he should have been questioned under caution... Although the legislation has not yet been changed, it will be interesting to see the intepretation of the government's intentions...
  22. Not quite... Manchester Surveillance Blimp Axed Now they just use UAV's, although the latest has been grounded because it's unlicenced!
  23. Now that the dust has settled, and MP's have stopped their hysteria it appears a bit of rationality has resumed.. Facebook riot youth spared custodial sentence And yet a similar incident which also led to no 'riot-related offences' got others 4 years in jail.... Like it or not, we have political prisoners in the UK ! And what about that 'tough action' on gangs?... It seems Camoron and his hired thugs have just made things worse.... Influx of prisoners after riots 'fuelling gang culture in jails' :Hmm:
  24. Unfortunately you continue to link 'anarchy' with 'chaos', so your historical and present comments are consistent. I also have a consistent viewpoint... :Winky: Anarchy is not chaos, but because 'authority' is scared of people doing their own thing they (like you) link the two together... And no, I don't think ALL people do ALL things with 'selfish motives'. I certainly don't, otherwise I could have been quite rich by now!...I believe you are confusing the majority with the ruling minority (financially) who manipulate and subjugate populations through that capitalism. And of course a 100% 'socialist enviroment' doesn't work - but then anarchy isn't a 100% 'socialist enviroment'! I note you continually talk in absolutes (100%, all, etc), as if a system that doesn't achieve this is a failure. I'm not preaching a 'utopia' (your word), just a fairer system which will inevitably have it's faults. But one that is better than we have now! Unfortunately the vested interests don't want the masses to have a fair system, so the only way to gain it is what I have been saying for years - short term uprising! So to suggest an anarchic system is based on chaos is like saying that imposing a so-called democratic system is based on the warfare required to change the existing one! The reason I admire the original Kibbutz movement is that it does have at it's roots a socialist agenda, but there were no permanent 'leaders'. Obviously cetain decisions need to be made in any community, but the decision makers were routinely changed in order to get the widest range of input - but most sensible decisions were left to individuals! So that is my idea of 'anarchy' in the real world. Oh, and as regards Hitler...He gained power with a minority of votes, but through violence and graft gained the chancellorship and then instituted the 'enabling act'....this allowed him to gain complete control of Germany, and history tells us the rest... Of course it couldn't happen now could it?...well I suggest looking into the UK 'legislative and regulatory reform act 2006'. This was an 'enabling act' in everything but name, but luckily certain vital parts were defeated. It will of course be tried again, and given a more favourable political climate will be passed!
