cobra Posted Thursday at 20:05 Share Posted Thursday at 20:05 It's the UK ID system all over again this time they have sneaked it in as age verification with photo ID This is the first bit of regulation from Ofcom as Ofcom is now the online safety regulator. I have an account on a site that I opened back in 2003 yes 22 years ago but I know when I login to tomorrow I will be asked for age verification to prove I'm over 18 when they already know I opened the account 22 years ago. (It's this bit that will annoy people) This will end up as needing a online passport and will not stop kids from using proxy/VPN to access things from outside the UK. What are your thoughts on this. cobra
Yes it's happened I'm been asked to age verify on a website that has a 22 year old account on it. I just don't approve of the ways they are going about this. They are biometry locking down account's and are now selling you solutions to get back in to them. the are more then 100 app's on apple and google that are ID apps or online passports then the are the website that only support this one or that one the nightmare has started. The needs to be one official app that can not be rejected (under penalty of fine) Also what about the websites that do not operate in the UK or have NO interest in the UK market. cobra
It looks like this ONLY effects UK IP address So the are two options get an age passport (YOTI looks like the big one) Use a good VPN (This will render more then half the UK legislation about the internet 100% useless) legislation like the The Online Safety Act (OSA) and Digital Services Act (DSA) and then we have Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (So under this they can ask your ISP for a log of your internet activity) and then your ISP gives over that log and all it has is 6 IP address's from a VPN are they going to be happy with that. I will be asking for a discount from my ISP as the are now additional charges and they are NOT offing inhouse solutions. Also expect a new wave of scams from India targeting OAPs using the Online Safety Act.
