  1. On April fools day jokes, there was one I believed for years. I have a friend called jeff Lyon and he has a brother called Chris who works at a zoo Jeff told me years ago that one april fools day someone phoned the zoo and asked to speak to Mr C Lyon. The receptionist who was new said to the caller 'do you think I am stupid' and put the phone down The man called again and asked again but this time asked for Mr Lyon She told him to get lost. Only later did she re-tell the story to another employee and was told that they do have a C Lyon working there. Chris Lyon does work at the zoo but Jeff eventually told me he had made the story up - shame eh.
  2. It's a lovely story but it's also false. It seems it started as an April fools day joke and just caught fire. Shame really, I love the story too Bristol Zoo insists there has never been any confusion over parking attendants and says it has several attendants and more than one car park – none open to coaches. A version of the story did appear in the Evening Post two years ago – in a feature on urban myths published to coincide with April Fools' Day. Parking attendant Cliff Smith, 58, who was on duty at the Clifton Down car park yesterday, said: "I've worked here for about five years and it was about two years ago that this email started to circulate. It was around April time, which might explain things, but we didn't really take much notice of it. "Then in about April of this year it appeared again. Someone mentioned it to me, then a couple of zoo members said it had been circulated around their companies. "Three days later a policeman turned up because it had gone to Bath and North East Somerset Council and someone there had told the police. "It's getting a bit boring now but it still seems to going around."
  3. This is great - well made me laugh :)
  4. Well, there are forums for just about everything out there. Number one I would say make it something you are really interested in / a sport, a game, a hobby or even a particular model of car. People will search for these type of forums and that is important. I started a golf forum years ago and it quickly became very popular (over 3000 members when I eventually handed everything over) I had great fun with it but it eventually took up too much of my time - ask Jamer, he'll tell you how much it takes :)
  5. Funniest quote from ex-sparks of the whole issue I must not have been here that day that, that happened Priceless
  6. There must be other issues other than just this thread - I think he alluded to something in one of his posts here. If he caved on the strength of one good telling off, then he caved - but I don't believe that. I have to say though - he was at variance with nearly every poster on here and that in my opinion stops people re-posting or scares them away completely. I am a strong person, articulate and erudite but I usually stopped posting when he turned it into a slag fest.
  7. The original topic was phones having ther data downloaded from people who have been arrested. So that would be 'numbers' and 'texts' - something they could read just by looking in the phone. Only this time, they take an electronic record. That does not differ too much from what the police have always had to do - make a record of the arrest and what was said and done, and any evidence - even in Robert Peels day. You, Sparks always have to use any excuse to go off on a tangent to shout 'it's a police state' I suspect you like to sprout your BS here because no one else in your life will listen. Should I be arrested in the future and they take my mothers and the local chinky's telephone number from my phone and record my texts saying 'see you in the pub at 8' then so be it. If they arrest the local pusher and record his dealings with the criminal fraternity from his phone - once again, so be it. But, and this is what you can never comprehend Sparks, we understand what you call function creep, we know the police get more powers by the week we know that some are 'bad apples' we understand that we are not always told the truth or real reason behind political decisions and it concerns most of us. What we don't need is a 'trotskyist' believing that he and he alone knows the real truth out there. We see it, we read it, we understand. Paranoia renders you unable to make a rational arguement - and that is why you recieve so much flak on here - not because we are ignorant
  8. Once again we idiots know nothing in the light of sparks's wisdom We don't read the papers or news to form an opinion, we don't understand what threats lie in wait for us. Your pity of our ignorance is justified. We are always glad for you to show us the true light. How was Bethlehem the last time you visited your place of birth?
  9. What can't I see Sparks? What is it that just you see that the rest of us don't? Are we all idiots that amble along aimlessly without a clue and all the while everything is falling down around us. I say this because you and your sidekick constantly deride the country that has fed and nurtured you. Has kept you safe and allowed you freedom to say and do what you like. There will always be enequities, it's the human condition. So what is it Sparks. Enlighten us.
  10. Oh no, they are trying to protect us. The complete totalatarian bast@rds How many AK47's do you have then all1 - seeing as it's so easy. Or are you confusing movies with reality, it's easy to do if you just sit all day watching telly. You two entertain us all no end.
  11. Ok then - seeing as you seem new to the offer/counter-offer, ie bartering then you may place them with an upward pushing movement into your own glutimus maximus.
  12. VoucherS plural - what denominations? I'll give ya £50.00
  13. There's your reply Jamer, another opportunity for him to get in a snide remark about the country he 'still' lives in. Australia is crying out for electricians Sparks - go to their emigration site. As soon as you put :occupation - electrician, you are in. As for the Titanic, it just shows that human error, ignorance and complacency has always been at the root of every disaster and will be at the root of future disasters still to happen. In another two years it will be a 100 years since the start of the great war. Another total disaster that didn't have anything to do with us.

    Posted 5 days too late
  15. They would if I had my way
  16. You could have a wash once in a while - and flush next time :)
  17. Well knock me down with a feather ! I have long held the same views on the good ole USA as Sparks. Allies my arse - they would drop our supposed friendship like a hot taty if it suited them. They interfere where they have no business and when it gets tough - the tough phucks off. If the lad had commited a murder in America - then there would be no problem with sending him back to face the music. But, he is an easy target (they don't seem to get many Russians or Chinese extradited do they) and they can 'bully' us into complying. It's long past the time we stopped sucking American d**ks and told them to F O. It's nothing new either - if you read Spike Milligans war memiors he will tell you that when he was in Italy and bombers flew overhead If they were German - they knew they were flying to bomb somewhere else and so no panic. If they were American everyone dived into the nearest ditch.
  18. No such thing as a free lunch eh. If the truth be known, gmail has been doing it for years. I first noticed that when I recieved a 'supposedly' private e mail. The body of the e mail contained a sentence about false teeth On the right hand side were advertisements for --- false teeth. After a few more e mails - there was always an 'ad' for something said in the e mail. I realised there was some kind of auto-reading going on to target ads for me. I send sensitive stuff through a normal e mail account now.
  19. I have done jury service - in fact it was only 6 months ago. I didn't want to do it but you have little option. I am self employed and for me to claim my lost earnings they wanted my tax returns and a letter from my accountant. I do my own accounting so this didn't qualify. I was paid £34 per day as lost wages. I had to go to work after court to try catch up. Luckily it only lasted 4 days - but had the case gone on I could have been there for 200 days or more. Inconvenient was not the word.
  20. It sounds like a large volt drop is happening. I am basing this on the cooker tripping the breaker. When voltage drops - current goes up. Also - the freezer motor would stop turning at a set voltage - thus defrosting. But as to what is causing it is another thing. If your lights are not dimming then I would suspect the fault lies within the fuse board or part of it. But as I say, it can't be determined by guessing.

    Clarkson....

He's just a forum troll Densh. They are on every forum. They usually end up getting banned but this one has sucked up to the gaffer. He knows it was a throwaway line but would rather get his thrills inciting vitriol on here. That is why he answers his own posts when no one else has - and his is always the last post. Trolling.
  22. Nearly as much as I had on you being synical.
  23. I have to agree. We are lead to believe that digital is superior to analouge - but without the most expensive equipment - it isn't. Especially when we are talking about picture quality or sound quality. You have all seen sound traces on a graph - these are chopped up by digital into either on or off - where the analouge signal graduates between on and off If the sound is sampled more often (expensive equipment) then you can get a near perfect reproduction - but the average digital convertor has a very poor sampling rate. We have all been seduced by the new word 'digital'
  24. I havn't read any schedules for when the normal radio is turned off - but 20 million cars can't be wrong. The commerical radio stations would go bust without all the people in cars being able to hear it. The advertisers would not pay for advertising if only a few upmarket drivers were listening.
